SLR Cameras!

This post is mostly for my friend Meghan over at Newbie New Yorker who is looking for the perfect SLR digital camera. I think her best bet would be a Canon, mostly because I have been lusting over the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS (in the photo above). This camera does everything that a real SLR would do, except that it's much smaller and much less expensive. The picture quality is awesome too.

Megs, if you are looking for a giant, holy-shit-this-weighs-more-than-me camera, the EOX 50D camera is supposed to be good. I just can't even look at cameras that cost more than $500. Okay, $200...

Then you've got the big camera giant, Nikon. I tend to stick with Canons, because all of the cameras I've ever had are Canons. However, my father, who has a bit of an obsession with cameras (and photography, I suppose), says that you can't go wrong with Nikon. The Nikon D80 looks beautiful and it's also an award winner (American Photo Editor's Choice 2007 Award, July '07), so you know you'll be getting your money's worth. And it will probably be a little cheaper because it's not the '08 version.

I hope this helps you out!

hey again!
i've been doing a ton of research and i think i might go with the D80 -- my only question for you (and your father if he's willing to offer some advice) is what lenses do i get?? I can buy the D80 body alone and then pick out lenses. Do you think your dad could recommend a couple good ones to start out with?
Muchas gracias! Hope you're having a great weekend!
