Music: Solange ~ "Losing You"

I love this! Solange (Beyoncé's rad younger sis) filmed this video with the colorful and fascinating members of the Le Sape society.  Le Sape, which stands for Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes (the Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People), is a fascinating subculture of the Congo in which men  dress in beautiful designer and handmade clothing while living in abject poverty.  The Sapeur culture puts a heavy emphasis on high standards of smart dress and personal cleanliness among the Congolese regardless of any societal differences.

If you'd like, you can read more about Le Sape here.

Florence and the Machine

I became hip to Florence and the Machine approximately 2378937489 years after everyone else. I know that everyone loves "Dog Days are Over", but I thought I'd post another one of her songs which I happen to like more.
It's full of lights and sparkle and whimsy- perfect for Sticky Candy, no?

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

I have been playing Grace Potter and the Nocturnals in my car with the windows down for several days now. It's raw rock and roll with a tiny country tinge, according to husby :). My favorite songs from the new album are "Paris", "Colors", "Tiny Light", and the last song on the album which I can't seem to remember right now.

I suggest you listen to the album turned up loud with bare feet and a popsicle.

Plus, it doesn't really hurt that she's a little hottie, does it?

Awesome

This video is for the Brooklyn-based R&B band, Escort. It's muppet centric, and just spectuacular. Because I love Sesame Street, I figured I'd share this gem with you. Pretty amazing.

Neko Case's voice is so bloomin' beautiful. I've been waiting for her new album with baited breath. Middle Cyclone comes out today, and on it, Case offers up a whole batch of gorgeous, heartbreaking, beautiful love songs.

Oh hey, dirtbag!

Well, well, well: everybody's favorite baby-faced crooner with the nasty moves, Chris Brown, has allegedly beaten up his girlfriend, the beautiful Rihanna leaving her with visible injuries. He was arrested for felony battery.

Apparently in 2007, Chris Brown told Giant magazine: "[My stepfather] used to hit my mom. He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself. I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, 'I'm just gonna go crazy on him one day…' I hate him to this day."

Looks like domestic violence runs in the family.

Rapper David Banner says: "One situation doesn't define a man and I really want American to stop doing that to people. As humans, none of us is perfect."

UM. YOU DO NOT HIT WOMEN, ASSHOLE {also, I barely understand your sentence: -50 points}.

DISGUSTING.

WEEZY F.

I have a confession to make. I have an unhealthy obsession with Lil' Wayne. I'm not really one to go for raunchy rap, but Weezy injects his rhymes with such clever wordplay that I can't help but love him. Therefore I was SO HAPPY that he was a big winner at the Grammys last night. Did you also know that he went to college for 2 semesters? I feel like I can totally back him up now.

Here's his interview with Katie Couric for your viewing pleasure.

Animal Collective- My Girls

John introduced me to this video last night. I'm so in love with the song AND the video! Today, lots of bands lack the creativity and "extensive vamping" that I deem necessary for my musical enjoyment. My Girls by Animal Collective has both. I highly recommend that you download some of their music.
